Welcome
- This is just a presentation, we'll have many more discussions abou tthis
- If you have questions, Please enter them in the chat, we'll try and address them at the end.
- We'll be having a meeting in 2 weeks to discuss this with folks in a regular town hall meeting environment.
📈 Topics Today
- Where we are, what are the Options?
- Goals, Possibilities, and Benefits
- Lay out a path forward
📋 Options
- Statewide SIS required(edFi behind the scenes)
- Use EdFi to replace EdFusion
- State Master Contracts with selected SIS Vendors(edFi behind the scenes)
- Do Nothing
😥 Reality
- Option 4 is of the table
- Options 1, 2, 3 are still on the table
- Awaiting legislative action for option 1 or 3 to move forward
All ways forward involve EdFi
🌠 Goals
- We are going to start small and try out EdFi to those willing
- We will listen to your feedback and try to continually improve
- If it works out, it will eventually be the required reporting process
- 🥕 First iteration to remove the need for student/staff matching process
☣ Warning!
- We'll need to use wording that implies it's a state reporting requirement
- The hope is this won't cost you anything(because they've already done this for other states)
- More to come on this.
🤩 EdFi
- Ed-Fi securely and seamlessly connects education data systems.
- DATA MODEL
- REST API
- State Level ODS
- SIS manages syncing/sending data to State
- Handles data quality issues at the source
- Two way syncing is possible
- "Just Works" - Other states: WI, NB, SC, AZ ....
☂ Benefits 1/2
- Open Source - low cost
- 🎂 No more EdFusion
- 🍰 No more csv files
- 🥞 Enables real-time capture
- 📈 Shorter feedback loops, better data sharing
- 🙭 We all can react and update changing requirements more quickly(P-EBT).
☂ Benefits 2/2
Better Tools/Reporting
- Student and staff matching/id's are seamlessly handled behind the scenes for you
- Ability to transfer student data between SU's via state
- Web interface to ensure folks are entering their data corectly.
- We hope to develop the ability to notify SU staff directly about missing data issues.
- Teacher portals for students showing assessment and other information
How ⁉
- State releases the requirements and we notify SIS vendor, giving them about a year to get set up
- We'll release new requirements each year as needed. Your vendor will conform to these changes.
- You'll have about a year of warning for new requirements.
- This summer/fall we hope to release a dev api for SIS vendors to develop off of.
📅 Each Year
Starting in July 2022:
- State gives SU's a login and an api url/endpoint to configure your SIS.
- Each year, in July, State will issue you unique login and url for the coming school year.
- State will keep 3 years of API's up so data can be updated/corrected.
🚲 Future 1/2
*Subject to change
Phase 1 (2022, SY23)
Try with those willing to participate, provide matchingPhase 2 (2024, SY25)
- Require all student and staff matching to run through edfi
- Try Special ED and IDEA reporting through EdFi to those willing
🏎 Future 2/2Phase 3 -(2025, SY26)
EdFi will be the only way to do data submissions
Phase 4 (2026, SY27)
Special ED and IDEA reporting is done through EdFiPhase 5 (2027, SY28) 🚀 Finance ?
I think, EdFi just released this, and I'm not in charge.
But if the above works out, I think this is where we are headedDisclaimer
Everything here is subject to change.
We are trying this out, if it doesn't work we'll respond to your feedback.
The hope is to make it better for all, not just the state.
